At the Saturday flea market on the Bürkliplatz someone is selling piecemeal a botanical collection. The plants have been carefully flattened and taped down onto sturdy paper and placed between a folded sheet. Each has a white identification tag giving the botanical classification, location where it was collected and the date– all in the year 1942. The plants seem to be mostly common plants. I recognise some. They are thriving still! The price is Fr20.– per sheet. It is a pity that the collection is being split up. Divided it loses its significance, its history.
Yet what also catches my eye is the collection of sheets amongst other bric-a-brac rests on a kangaroo skin. The shape of the skin is unmistakable.
