Fish have been in the pond for a year now. The numbers are depleted but who knows why some have died. Sometimes I squint through the layers of water and they all of them seem to have disappeared, particularly in the mornings. But we don’t give animals such as these small fish enough credit for being in tune with their environment. I wonder how much the water temperature fluctuates, perhaps not that much, or not on a daily basis but on a seasonal cycle.
I have discovered one way to bring the fish up from the depths is to run new water in to pond. The rain water tank pump is set as low as possible but still creates a rush out of the hose and the fish love to swim into the flow as though the energy of the water energises them.
