Elkhorn has landed

I spotted it back in July, an elkhorn fern on a Podocarpus elatus, a street tree on the railway line side of the road.
The elkhorn’s base was already the size of my hand with half a dozen leaves so it was rather like it had landed like a space ship or UFO on this tree at this size and had never been smaller. It was a good place to land, shaded and the bark of the tree is rough. Rain water must funnel down the ripples and ridges of this roughness and perhaps hold there rather like a sponge.

As the Summer has come on, hot and rather humid it has survived and grown slightly bigger. The foot leaf(?) has browned and the leaves have lengthened and darkened but it holds on.
